The Democratic National Committee will make a seven-figure investment in voter registration efforts, DNC Chairman Ken Martin said in a Tuesday morning press call, attended by Newsweek and other outlets. This move comes at a signficant time for the party as the 2026 midterm elections near and the party aims to break President Donald Trump’s grip on Washington.
Launching in the electoral battleground states of Arizona and Nevada, the effort aims to reduce the Democratic Party’s reliance on 501(c)(3) nonprofits for registration efforts, Martin. Nonprofits are barred from campaigning, which will allow Democrats to more directly pitch their electoral message when registering voters.
Democratic Senator Ruben Gallego of Arizona was present on the call and said this effort would make a difference in states like his own. In his 2024 campaign, Gallego said Republicans started with a 200,000-plus voter advantage at the start of the race and extended that to over 300,000 by the end of the race.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information is made available.
