Denny Hamlin has lashed out at Kyle Larson by saying, “p*ss on your triple sweep,” after Larson said that he hated to witness Hamlin win races. Larson won the NASCAR Cup Series race at Bristol and squashed Hamlin’s attempts at winning three races in a row.
Larson was on a mission at Bristol to secure a triple sweep, meaning a win in the Craftsman Truck Series, the Xfinity Series, and the Cup Series. Despite winning the Xfinity and Cup races, Larson missed out on a Truck win by just one position, preventing him from going into NASCAR’s history books.
He came back stronger during Sunday’s Cup race, leading 411 laps and securing a dominant finish, while Hamlin finished second. Hamlin’s winning streak, which began in Martinsville, was broken by Larson, who then mocked the NASCAR veteran. Larson said:
“Just a flawless race once again here at Bristol for the 5 team. Really, really good car. That was a lot of fun, you know? However many laps of green we ran there was a lot of fun and I was pretty comfortable with things. Then, Denny came on really strong there before the pit cycle. Then it just kind of kept the pressure on from there. So, I knew I had to make some good moves in traffic.”
He added:
“You know, if Denny’s in front of me, it could be a totally different story and be really hard to pass him. Glad to stop his three-peat; we hate to see him win. As I’m sure you guys do too.”
While Hamlin initially supported Larson for his win, he later called him out for his remarks against him on the Actions Detrimental podcast. Hamlin said:
“His post-race comments about keeping me from three in a row and we don’t like to see that and you fans don’t either, now I’m like, p*ss on your triple — your sweep. I’m glad Chandler Smith beat you in the Truck race… it’s all good.”
After the race at Bristol, Hamlin didn’t hold back from crediting Larson for the flawless run. He told FOX NASCAR:
“You got to give that team their due and Kyle his due. Just a dominant performance. It looked like a pretty flawless day for him. It looked pretty easy. It was all I had to try to keep up there. Glad we were able to give him a little bit of a run with our Progressive Toyota.”
