Dierks Bentley and his wife, Cassidy Black, aren’t sleeping in the same bed anymore — or even in the same room.
The country singer, 49, broke down his sleeping arrangement with his spouse, also 49, during his Tuesday, September 2, appearance on the “Bobbycast” podcast, revealing why he decided to get separate beds.
“I’m the world’s most horrible sleeper,” Bentley explained, later adding, “My wife will be like, how’d you sleep last night? And we don’t sleep in the same room right now anymore.”
Bentley said that he’s the type of person who has “to be positioned exactly the correct way.”
“I’m just thinking about the process of getting to fall asleep, and all of a sudden she’ll jerk,” he continued. “I’m like, ‘You gotta be kidding me. You’re already out?’ She’s already asleep like that. And so, she’ll move a tiny bit, I feel it.”
Bentley opted to get separate beds for himself and Black “years ago.”
“I decided to separate church and state and I got rid of our bed and I’ve got two platform beds and two box springs and two mattresses. I have my own duvet, she has her duvet, there’s a clear line. You can see the floor between her bed and mine,” he added. “So it’s like independent suspension. Why would you have a truck with leaf springs when you can have independent suspension? So she can move around all she wants. And if you feel like you really need extra sleep, you can kind of push her bed a little further over.”
However, he and Black have run into another problem with their sleeping arrangement.
“Lately, she’s like, because I’m just such an animal, it’s terrible. She’s like, she’s sleeping on the couch now,” he said. “She’s like, there’s an extra room we have and she just so goes to sleep in there. And even last night, we’re like, we’ve got to get this back on track when I get off the road. We got to get back to the same room.”
Bentley concluded, “We’ve never had a TV in our bedroom, just put one in. I have my dad’s old recliner over there that my mom didn’t want. So it’s a nice health and wellness setup we got going on. So we’re going to try to move her back in this year. It’s a big plan.”
Bentley and Black met in middle school and dated on and off throughout and after their high school years before they eloped in December 2005.
“I had a crush on her the whole time, but I wasn’t cool enough. I was way too immature and into drinking beer and guns and blowing things up,” Bentley told People in 2007, with Black telling the outlet, “He was just trouble.”
The couple went on to welcome daughters Evalyn Day and Jordan Catherine in 2008 and 2010, respectively, followed by son Knox in 2013.
In May, Bentley told People that he was planning on going all out for his 20th wedding anniversary with his wife.
“It’s an amazing life we’ve built together and we need to do something big,” the “She Hates Me” singer said. “It’s been a great 20 years, and [Black is] just really an incredible person. … My wife and I really need our 20th to do some [sort] of adventure, something special together.”
