Internet users can’t get enough of a Doberman closely examining his owner’s decorating skills, with many hailing him as a devoted project manager.
Hugo the Doberman is sure to stay on top of everything in his home, even the decorating. He may not have opposable thumbs, but that doesn’t mean he won’t get involved. Indeed, a hilarious video was shared on TikTok (@hugo_thedobie) of the dog making sure the painter was doing a stellar job by keeping a keen eye on his handiwork.
During the video, Hugo followed the paint roller as it moved up and down, and even managed to get a spot of white paint on his snout because he was so committed to the cause. After a while, Hugo even started to playfully snap his jaws at the paint roller, as though trying to chase it like a toy.
Since the clip was shared on TikTok, it has gone viral and in just a matter of days it has amassed over 589,600 views and more than 60,500 likes at the time of writing. The caption alongside the video jokes that Hugo was just “keeping everything in check.”
Newsweek has contacted @hugo_thedobie via TikTok for comment. We could not verify the details of the video.
In fact, this hasn’t been the only time when “the inspector” showed up to see how the work was coming along. His owner shared a follow-up video on TikTok showing Hugo monitoring her skills as she continued painting.
While Dobermans are known for their keen intelligence and athleticism, the American Kennel Club (AKC) also highlights just how playful and fun-loving the breed can be. They can be open to strangers, adapt well to new situations, and are fast learned. Nonetheless, they are highly vigilant and very protective—it doesn’t matter whether they’re looking out for intruders or inspecting their owner’s painting skills.
Dobermans, who can reach up to 28 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh up to 100 pounds, typically need a lot of exercise and free play. The AKC recommends long, daily walks and a large, fenced area to provide not only physical stimulation but for their mental wellbeing too.
Internet users are certainly obsessed with Hugo’s hard work and commitment, as many people took to the comments section to laud his management. This has led to more than 220 comments on the viral TikTok post so far.
One comment reads: “I hope you’re paying him a fair wage.”
Another TikTok user joked: “this is actually very dangerous he might end up getting a job as a painter and decorator.”
Another person added: “He is trying to tell you that you have missed a bit.”
While one commenter replied: “The only form of micromanagement I’ll accept.”
