Bringing home a puppy means learning to deal with the nonstop energy. A recent video on Instagram showed that this behavior from new pups not only puts owners at their wits’ end, but also older dogs in the household.
A September 18 video posted to the Instagram account @aussies_zekeluna showed two Australian shepherds inside a home, surrounded by several toys. The caption stated it was close to bedtime, but the new puppy, Luna, didn’t seem to care about the routine. She was ready for more playtime.
On the other hand, the older dog, Zeke, had run “out of patience for the day,” completely over dealing with the enthusiastic pup. When Luna tried to initiate play, Zeke showed he had had enough. Their owner captured the moment Zeke reached his breaking point, pushing Luna out of his way with his nose and flipping the puppy onto her back.
He tried putting the pup in her place, but instantly regretted his decision. Zeke looked back at the owner as if to apologize for his behavior. Luckily, Luna did not seem fazed. She quickly popped back up and continued to follow Zeke, ready for round 100 of playing.
Their owner told Newsweek that the family welcomed Luna home earlier this month. Just as the family is learning to adjust to the puppy lifestyle, so is Zeke. It was the first time the owner noticed Zeke putting Luna in her place.
“I was shocked, but I also think he needs to show her when he wants her to stop, so I wasn’t mad at him,” Zeke and Luna’s owner said.
And luckily, no hard feelings. Their owner added that the two dogs already love each other.
Within a week, @aussies_zekeluna’s Instagram video reached over 555,000 views. Instagram users flooded the comment section to share that they understood why Zeke politely corrected his little sister. They called it a “love tap.”
“The look at you after like, ‘Oh…oops,'” commented a viewer.
Another commenter wrote: “It’s giving time out!!”
“Tough puppy! Just got right back up!” a third person commented.
