The Miami Dolphins got extremely good injury news on Wednesday.
Dolphins general manager Chris Grier announced that Achane is expected to be fully ready for Miami’s Week 1 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.
Achane missed most of offseason workouts all of the preseason with a calf injury, but he is expected to be ready and a full-go in two weeks.
He is entering his third season in the NFL, with his second being the best of his short career so far. He appeared in all 17 games and finished the season with 907 rushing yards and six touchdowns in the ground game.
Achane may have been even more explosive catching passes out of the backfield, as he hauled in 78 catches for 592 yards and six touchdowns. He averaged 7.5 yards per reception and has quickly become one of the biggest dual threat running backs in the league.
Achane may be itching to get back on the field, especially against the Colts. Indianapolis held him to 77 rushing yards on 15 carries as well as allowing him to catch just two passes for eight yards. The eight receiving yards were his fewest in a game last season when he had two-plus catches.
The health of not only Achane, but of the entire skill position unit for Miami will be critical. Achane’s production decreased last season after quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was injured. Teams could stack the box and play the run without a threat to get the ball downfield to Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
If the Dolphins are able to stay even somewhat healthy compared to last season, Achane may be able to get close to 1,000 yards both rushing and receiving.
