It is not often the NFL engages in player-for-player trades, but that occurred on Monday morning as the Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers pulled off a shocking blockbuster trade.

The Dolphins finally traded for Jalen Ramsey, but got a massive player in exchange, All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick started his career in Miami and was drafted in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Now, six seasons later, he has returned.
That isn’t the only trade the Dolphins and Steelers engaged in. Tight end Jonnu Smith was also sent to the Dolphins for late-round draft picks in 2027.

The biggest changes for the Dolphins are that the team will likely have to look to the free agent market to sign a new tight end. Smith was a huge pass catcher, and Julian Hill, Pharaoh Brown, and Tanner Conner are not exactly massive in the pass game.
Miami might consider Gerald Everett, Marcedes Lewis, or Jordan Akins.
The Dolphins got a huge upgrade in the safety department with Fitzpatrick coming back; however, this leaves the right-side cornerback slot lacking.
Miami has been attached to multiple free agent cornerbacks like Stephon Gilmore, Asante Samuel Jr., and more. One name that hasn’t been mentioned enough, though, is Xavien Howard, who also played for the Dolphins before his release.
With Fitzpatrick coming back, the Dolphins could give Howard a call and see if he is also interested in returning.
This is a massive trade for both sides, as both the Dolphins and Steelers got an All-Pro talent out of the deal, minus Smith.
