Drew Scott shared an emotional statement announcing the death of his mother-in-law.
“My heart is broken. We have lost one of the most beautiful, kind and selfless people this planet has ever seen. Linda’s mom is truly one of a kind and was taken from us far too soon,” Scott, 47, captioned a carousel of photos via Instagram on Thursday, February 5, after the passing of wife Linda Phan’s mom. “Thank you Habu for bringing so much light to our lives. Your laugh was infectious and I will always remember our late nights playing your favorite game 四色牌遊戲.”
The caption continued, “I feel helpless in trying to comfort Linda and her family but know memories of all the beautiful times with Habu will live on with us forever. You were always there for us and all 10 grandkids. The hardest thing for me is to know we won’t have you here to see Parker and Piper grow into strong and compassionate adults like you. I love you. I miss you❤️.”
A cause of death was not immediately revealed.
Included in the Property Brothers star’s post were photos of his mother-in-law, whom the family referred to as Habu, with Scott and Phan, 40, as well as their two children, Parker, 3, and Piper, 21 months. One picture showed the couple with Scott’s mom, Joanne, and Habu as they wore formal outfits. Another featured Habu holding one of her grandchildren as gifts were being opened during a birthday celebration.
The comments section of the post was flooded with condolences and prayers for the family.
Drew’s twin brother, Jonathan Scott, wrote, “💔 what a loving soul through and through. May we always remember and feel the love she shared.”
HGTV’s Taniya Nayak commented, “I’m so sorry. Sending love to your entire family. 🤍.”
“Oh no I am so very sorry for your loss. Please give Linda my love,” HGTV’s Egypt Sherrod wrote, while singer Leona Lewis said, “Our hearts are with you, so sorry to hear this, praying for Linda and the family 🤍.”
“So very sorry. ❤️❤️,” Viola Davis commented, while Fixer to Fabulous’ Dave Marrs wrote, “I’m so very sorry for your family’s loss. My heart goes out to you all.”
Another fan shared, “I am so sorry for your loss. Not just for you and your wife-who must be grieving of course of her beloved mother, but for your child and future children. My greatest grief at the loss of my father was not just for me, although that stays with me today, but the loss of my children’s grandfather, who was so important in their lives. And that is so with your sweet mama-in law. Words cannot express hie [sic] we feel in these times.”
Drew and Phan wed in Italy in May 2018. They welcomed Parker in May 2022 and Piper in May 2024.
Phan has not spoken out about her mother’s death, but she did share rare glimpses of their tight bond via Instagram over the years. In July 2021, Phan posted a series of photos to wish her mom a happy birthday.
“Happy birthday to my goofy lovin, adventurous and artistic mum! ❤️🥰 Love you so much! 🎉🌼,” she captioned the post at the time.
