Eva Longoria’s fans are getting into the holiday spirit with the trailer of her new holiday film, Christmas Karma — and her commitment to the role is unwavering.
The trailer for Gurinder Chadha’s Christmas Karma was released on Wednesday, September 17, featuring Longoria, 50, as the Ghost of Christmas Past. The actress appears pops up halfway through the teaser looking completely unrecognizable with a curly gray wig and face paint, donning a black and silver outfit.
“This is ridiculous, you’re not even dressed like a ghost,” Kunal Nayyar’s character, Eshaan Sood, says to Longoria while jumping up from his bed. She lets out a horrifying roar, with a little help from CGI, which scares Mr. Sood beyond belief. The mysterious figure introduces herself as the Ghost of Christmas Past, taking Mr. Sood on a trip down memory lane, recalling the day he had to leave his home as a child and say goodbye to his friends.
“You think these memories will change me?” Mr. Sood asks, to which the Ghost of Christmas Past replies, “Yes.”
The movie is musical Bollywood spin on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.
“The story follows Mr. Sood, a wealthy, British Asian businessman who scorns generosity and exploits his staff on zero-hour contracts,” per the film’s synopsis via Into Film. “On Christmas Eve, he is visited by three spirits who guide him first through his past as a refugee, then to open his eyes to his present and the damage being caused by his disdain for those around him and finally to look upon a bleak future shaped by his selfishness.”
The synopsis continues, “Through these encounters, Sood confronts prejudice, lost love and the consequences of his choices, ultimately rediscovering empathy and the joy of giving, with a little bit of encouragement along the way from a jolly London cab driver. With a rich, multicultural soundtrack blending gospel, bhangra, rap and pop, the film celebrates Britain’s diverse communities and the spirit of the season.”
While Longoria plays the Ghost of Christmas Past, Billy Porter portrays the Ghost of Christmas Present and Boy George appears as the Ghost of Christmas Future. Charithra Chandran, Hugh Bonneville, Leo Suter, Ali Asghar Shah, Danny Dyer, Pixie Lott, Bilal Hasna, Nitin Ganatra, Allan Corduner, Rufus Jones, Tracy-Ann Oberman and Eve Jihan Cooper round out the cast.
Longoria’s gray-haired look in Christmas Karma is a stark contrast from her typical brunette locks. The actress recently sported her signature glam while wearing a classic white dress and matching white pumps for an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers on Tuesday, September 16. During the interview, Longoria discussed her FXX sports docuseries, Necaxa, and splitting her time between Spain and Mexico.
