The fashion crowd roared in approval when Wendy Williams strolled unassisted into the LaQuan Smith fashion show last night. The former radio and talk show host, who has infamously been in a court-appointed guardianship, smiled and took her seat in the front row next to Ice-T and Coco Austin.
After months of seclusion, the miniskirt-loving 61-year-old has been making the NYFW rounds. Earlier in the week, she ditched her wheelchair to attend the Dennis Basso and Bach Mai presentations.
Williams was warmly welcomed by Smith’s A-list guests, who cheered her triumphant return to the spotlight. Lil’ Kim, Ice Spice, Busta Rhymes, Latto, Larsen Thompson, Adam Lambert, Ty Dolla $ign, Valentina Ferrer, Sai De Silva, Amerie, Brooklyn Nikole, Jordyn Woods, Ari Lennox and D’Lila, Jessie and Christian “King” Combs were among the many boldfacers hobnobbing at the Classic Car Club, a swank members-only hotspot with a Hudson River terrace. Guests sipped cocktails, snacked on caviar canapés and people watched before the show.
The Combs twins and their older brother Christian – Sean “Diddy” Combs’ three children with his ex, the late Kim Porter – posed like pros in front of a silver Porsche Spyder parked on the runway. Clad in Laquan’s shiny black minidresses, the 18-year-old stunners told Alexa that they aim to be covergirls but have not yet signed with an agency.
“We wanted to be supermodels our entire lives, but we recently graduated [from high school] so now it’s the perfect time to really put our dreams into action,” said D’Lila.
She and her sister have already perfected their model strut and on Monday they walked in 831 Minhle, a custom women’s label. A few weeks ago, they paraded matching purple gowns in the Ellaé Lisqué 10th anniversary show in Los Angeles.
“We always practice, that’s something that we do almost every day,” said Jessie. “Even some people say our normal walk looks like a runway strut. We’re like, no, it’s just natural to us.”
“Our mom was a supermodel so she always would give us tips,” continued D’Lila. “Our aunt Kimora Lee Simmons, she gives us advice every day. So we’re very thankful for her.”
“Also, Naomi Campbell has given us so much advice,” added Jessie. “[She said] just to stay confident and do what you love.”
Brands should know, though, that the dazzling duo come as a pair.
“We love being twins,” said Jessie. “Everything we do, we want to go together. We’re very, very connected, we have an extremely good bond, so I feel like booking together is definitely the goal. It’s either you want both or you want none.”
Fans of LaQuan’s sexy fare will want all of it. This season, his signature catsuit – adored by Beyoncé, Rihanna and Kylie Jenner – came high-necked with a zip-front and accessorized with a tactical knife in a hip holster. There were also floaty, feminine looks, like a diaphanous pink number that tied in front like a sarong, and a filmy snake-print dress. As always, the mood was slinky and seductive. His black lace-up pants were more lace than pant and a fishnet dress left nothing to the imagination.
Williams found plenty to covet in the collection.
“Fabulous! Fabulous!” she enthused. “There are some things that I would like to have. Plus, I got this from him,” she added, pointing to her fluffy black-and-white coat and shirt.
This Boomer knows how to represent.
