After getting the first glimpse of Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman on the set of Practical Magic 2, fans cannot contain their excitement about the upcoming sequel.
“I almost had a stroke in the middle of the street! This is so serious!” one person wrote via X, as a second person said, “I can’t believe we’re getting this. The world is so bad something this good feels like some kind of trick!”
The clip of Bullock, 60, and Kidman, 58, was shared on the latter’s Instagram account on Friday, July 18. The video featured the costars embracing and smiling as they stood in front of a headstone and has garnered over 539,000 likes. It’s generated a ton of buzz across social media platforms, with many hoping the magic of the first film translates to the second.
“I’m not normally in favor of reboots after so much time has passed but in this case I make an exception. I cannot wait for this. 🪄,” another X user said.
“They look amazing,” a different X user gushed over Bullock and Kidman’s looks, as another person agreed, “They’re positively ageless. 🥹 thank you for bringing Practical Magic 2 to production.”
Kidman and Bullock originally starred in the 1998 fantasy film based on Alice Hoffman’s novel of the same name and directed by Griffin Dunne, portraying sisters Sally and Gillian “Gilly” Owens. In the movie, their characters both are determined to find romance despite their family’s long and complicated history with love spells and curses.
They will be reprising their roles in the sequel, which will be directed by Susanne Bier and written by Akiva Goldsman.
“I just need this movie to have an amazing soundtrack just like the first one,” another X post read, referencing the iconic music featured in the first film. “It’s one of my all time favorite soundtracks..Stevies voice brings me right back to my 11 year old self watching for the first time. Chills. Petition to have ‘Silver Springs’ on the soundtrack??”
Others questioned why Evan Rachel Wood will not be returning to reprise her role of Sally’s eldest daughter, Kylie Owens.
“It’s not too late to ask Evan Rachel Wood to come back!!!” one person commented underneath Kidman’s Instagram post.
Wood, 37, addressed her absence from the sequel earlier this month in a post via her Instagram Stories.
“I am getting asked about this a lot, so I’ll just clear it up now,” she wrote on July 11. “I was not asked to come back and be in the #PracticalMagic sequel.”
The actress continued, “I offered my services, even if it was one scene or one line. I was told they are recasting. I am sorry to disappoint the fans. It was not in my control or my choice. I would have happily rejoined my sisters.”
