Indiana Fever star guard Sophie Cunningham has unfortunately been ruled out for the rest of the 2025 WNBA season after suffering a knee injury.
While she will not play for the rest of the year, she has made quite a few for herself with the Fever. Cunningham has become the “enforcer” for Indiana and is viewed as the main defense for superstar guard Caitlin Clark.
Not only has she played a key role for the Fever, she has also become a much more popular figure on podcasts and in media sessions.
Cunningham’s career has taken a huge jump thanks to her first season in Indiana.
Wings’ Paige Bueckers Reveals Main WNBA Inspiration Without Hesitation
Unfortunately, as she has been talking more on podcasts and in post-game media availabilities, some of her comments have not gone over well with the league. Most recently, she received another fine after commenting on how the officials treat Dallas Wings star Paige Bueckers.
“I love Paige to death, don’t get me wrong,” Cunningham said back on August 13. “I think she’s a (expletive) of a player and would love to play with her one day, but those refs were giving her every frickin’ whistle last night. Like you literally couldn’t touch her. That’s just so annoying to me.”
Obviously, the league didn’t take kindly to those comments. They hit Cunningham with a fine.
After receiving her latest fine, Cunningham spoke out about it during her latest episode of the “Show Me Something” podcast.
“I’m officially 3-for-3 on being fined by the WNBA,” Cunningham said. “They didn’t like my comment on Paige Bueckers… I didn’t even say anything bad.”
Despite opening up about the fine, it was clear that Cunningham is still going to talk. She was openly laughing about the fine and it obviously did not bother her.
Angel Reese Sends Message to Sky Fans After First Game in 3 Weeks
During the course of her first season with the Fever, Cunningham played in 30 games and made 13 starts. She averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and a steal per game, while shooting 46.9 percent overall and 43.2 percent from three-point range.
Now, the question will become, will Cunningham re-sign with Indiana in free agency? Fans will have to wait to find out if she’ll run it back alongside Clark next season.
