New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson has been the subject of criticism for years. In fact, critics are often a bit too harsh on Wilson.

To be fair, Wilson did have a rough first outing with the Giants during Week 1. The Giants were blown out by the Washington Commanders with a final score of 21-6, and many believed that Wilson was set to be benched.
Wilson ended the day going 17-for-37 attempts and 168 yards. His 4.5 yards per throw average was also quite shocking.
Following the game, Giants head coach Brian Daboll was noncommittal about the starting quarterback question.
A day later, it was announced by Daboll that Wilson would remain the starter for Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys. It is always ridiculous to base an entire season on a Week 1, but Wilson will need to put together a bounce-back game.
Considering all the chatter surrounding the Giants is about Jaxson Dart replacing Wilson, the longtime veteran issued a cryptic two-word response that could be tied to the rumors of him being benched soon.
Wilson took to X to issue a two-word response that reads, “Mentally Tough.”
While Wilson could be addressing anything, he has proved throughout his entire career that those two words ring true. He has faced plenty of critics, especially in recent years.
After Wilson was traded to the Denver Broncos in the 2021 season, it was believed that he would be the franchise option the team sorely needed. However, Wilson fell out of favor with head coach Sean Payton, and he was benched to “preserve financial flexibility”.

Wilson then signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers and suffered a calf injury that knocked him out of action for training camp and the start of the regular season.
Wilson eventually replaced Justin Fields at quarterback in Week 7, and he put together a respectable season of 2,482 yards, 15 touchdowns, and six interceptions.
A four-game losing streak poured into the playoffs, and the Steelers were beaten by the Balitmore Ravens in the Wild Card Round.
Wilson then moved to the Giants, where it was believed another fresh start would get him going. Sadly, his Week 1 performance left a lot to be desired.
There are still rumors floating around that Dart will replace Wilson, but that remains to be seen just yet. For now, Wilson is reminding himself and fans that critics will seemingly not get to him.
