The Memphis Grizzlies offered an injury update on Ja Morant on Wednesday night.
As the Grizzlies return from the All-Star break, they will continue focusing on Morant’s recovery from a UCL sprain, which occurred weeks ago.
According to the official team-released announcement, Morant continues to experience discomfort in his elbow. The team has extended his absence for at least two more weeks. He’ll get reevaluated at the end of that timeline.
When Was the Last Time Ja Morant Played?
This year has been a rough go-round for Morant. He has struggled to find consistency with his availability, missing large chunks of games, dating back to his third absence in late November.
On January 18, Morant returned after a long absence to face the Orlando Magic. He checked in for 28 minutes, producing 24 points and 13 assists.
In the following game, Morant checked in for 29 minutes to score 23 points and 12 assists. Just as it seemed Morant was beginning to hit his stride, the veteran guard suffered a setback once again.
Heading into the All-Star break, Morant had missed 11 games in a row.
Has the Morant Saga Been Resolved in Memphis?
The Grizzlies were reportedly working the phones for a potential Morant trade heading into the deadline. It was widely reported that Morant did not have a large market of suitors. A down season, mixed with his massive contract and recent injury concerns, likely played a part in the lack of interest.
While Morant was clearly frustrated at the beginning of the year, he made it clear that he didn’t want to seek a trade out of Memphis. The homegrown Grizzlies guard is still committed to the team that drafted him in 2019. The saga might not be fully resolved, but the situation is calm as Morant works on recovering.
