John Gruden is a football guy’s favorite football guy.
As a former Super Bowl-winning head coach and current Barstool Sports personality, Gruden lives in between the world of the pros and the world of entertainment.
Although he’s publicly talked about how much he enjoys making content and breaking down film for his large online audience, Gruden hasn’t been shy about leaving open the possibility that he might return to coaching if the right job opens up.
One NFL franchise reached out to Gruden in hopes that they’d join their team for the next season, but he’s declined, per The Athletic’s senior writer Zack Rosenblatt.

The mystery team?
The New York Jets, who have cleaned house under head coach Aaron Glenn, have seen multiple assistants leave the organization since the end of another disappointing season.
New York is doing everything possible to change its fortunes as one of the losingest franchises in all of North American sports since the turn of the century. The Jets haven’t won double-digit games in a decade and haven’t reached the playoffs since 2010, when now-maligned quarterback Mark Sanchez was their leader under center.
Although Gruden wouldn’t have been the savior of the team, he would have brought a much-needed surge of energy into a franchise that has been depleted of all hope and optimism each passing year. Their projected No. 2 overall pick, QB Dante Moore of Oregon, decided to stay one more year in school and leave the Jets more than likely needing to find a signal-caller outside of the draft for next season.
Glenn, who many pundits believed might have been fired following only three wins in his first season, has been given the confidence to return for a second chance. But if the Jets have another season at the bottom of the standings with a much deeper QB draft expected in 2027, it seems unlikely that the defensive-minded guru will keep his job after a second year on the hot seat.
Gruden, all the while, will continue analyzing and breaking it down on FOX Sports and on his YouTube channel, waiting for that right job to return to the sidelines.
