Kanye West says he never wanted to have children with ex-wife Kim Kardashian.
Clad in a black hood and robe reminiscent of the white outfits worn by the Ku Klux Klan, West, 47, spoke to podcaster DJ Akademiks in a wide-ranging interview shared by Akademiks via X on Sunday, March 30.
Among the topics covered are West’s recent controversial behavior on social media, including allegations that the “Kardashian mob” has affected his parenting of his and Kardashian’s four children, North, 11, Saint, 9, Chicago, 7, and Saint, 5. (Kardashian and West were married from 2014 to 2022; they were each awarded joint custody in their November 2022 divorce.)
At one point, Akademiks said, “When you speak about Kim, people might be like, ‘Well, you picked her. You put yourself in that.’”
West responded, “Absolutely, I did. That was my fault. No, that was my fault.”
“I didn’t want to have children with this person after the first two months of being with them, but that wasn’t God’s plan,” West added.
Earlier this month, West hit out at his ex-wife and her family over an alleged loss of parenting rights. On March 15, West released a song featuring North and disgraced music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, 55, titled “Lonely Roads Still Go to Sunshine,” despite Kardashian’s apparent attempts to stop its release.
In an alleged text message exchange between Kardashian and West, the Skims CEO told her ex-husband that North could not be featured on the song because her name is trademarked. “I asked you at the time if I can trademark her name. You said yes. When she’s 18, it goes to her. So stop,” Kardashian reportedly wrote, according to screenshots published by TMZ.
“I sent paperwork over so she wouldn’t be in the Diddy song to protect her,” Kardashian reportedly added, referencing Diddy, who was arrested in September 2024 and indicted on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. (Diddy has denied the allegations against him.)
In a rant shared via X on the same day, West wrote, “Yes I have beef with people that froze my account took my kids away and tried to put me in jail AND ITS STUCK.”
“I DONT WANT TO JUST ‘SEE’ MY KIDS. I NEED TO RAISE THEM,” he added. “I NEED TO HAVE SAY SO OF WEAR THEY GO TO SCHOOL AND WHO THEIR FRIENDS ARE AND WHOS HOUSES THEY SLEEP OVER WEATHER MY DAUGHTERS WEAR LIPSTICK AND PERFUME ALL THESE RIGHTS HAVE BEEN TAKEN FROM ME BY THE KARDASHIAN MOB HULU AND DISNEY AND THE BIGGER AGENDA TO USE THE SELECTIVELY BRED BLACK CHILDREN TO BE PLATFORMS TO INFLUENCE BLACK PEOPLE.”
Speaking to Akademiks, West said he realized he didn’t “own” trademarks to his kids’ names and likenesses after North featured on the song with Diddy.
“I don’t got the name or likeness ownership, or at least 50-50, with my kids. So how is it joint custody?” West said. “My kids are celebrities and I don’t have a say.”
