The LSU Tigers, led by interim head coach Frank Wilson, closed out their season Saturday night with a matchup against the Houston Cougars in the Texas Bowl.
Despite a depleted roster — with several players opting out to prepare for the NFL Draft and others preparing to enter the NCAA transfer portal when it opens Jan. 2 — LSU battled but ultimately fell 38–35.
New head coach Lane Kiffin was in attendance for the game, at least briefly, after agreeing to a seven-year, $91 million deal with the program.
During the matchup, Kiffin stopped by the broadcast booth for an interview with LSU’s media team. However, shortly afterward — while the game was still ongoing — cameras caught him getting into a car and leaving the stadium, a moment that quickly drew attention online.

“Wow, he didn’t even stay to talk to the team after the game. Is that for real??” A fan said.
Someone else added, “That’s not a good look.”
Another person wrote, “It was proper to make an appearance but there was no need to watch an offense that isn’t is and 85% of the players won’t be his.”
“He’s so fake. I don’t care if this game doesn’t matter or most of those players aren’t gonna be there next year. This is your team. You’re school. You’re supposed to support them through and through,” one more fan commented.
It’s likely that many of the players who suited up for the Tigers on Saturday night won’t be part of Lane Kiffin’s roster in 2026, but the game still presented a valuable opportunity for those players to make a case for why they should remain in Baton Rouge.
Kiffin is expected to be extremely active when the transfer portal opens, and LSU has already been linked to several high-profile names across college football who have entered their names into the portal.
