It’s been a very challenging month-plus for American skier Lindsey Vonn. Back on Feb. 8 — just a week after being diagnosed with a torn ACL — she made the decision to still compete at the Winter Olympics in Milan, hoping to add to her already historic résumé.
However, just seconds into the first downhill event, Vonn took a hard fall and had to be airlifted to a local Italian hospital. She was ultimately diagnosed with a complex tibia fracture, an injury that has since required more than five surgeries — first in Italy and later after returning to the United States.
From the looks of her daily updates on social media, she appears to be making tremendous progress in her recovery. Still, the growing assumption following the crash was that her competitive skiing career could be over, especially considering she is now 41 years old.
However, Vonn may have addressed those rumors on Saturday when she responded to a post on X suggesting she was retiring, writing, “Who said I was retiring?”.

Vonn’s talent was never in question prior to the injury, even at her age. She ranked at or near the top in just about every competition and had one of the best times entering her first Olympic event over a month ago. She completed two training runs on the Torn ACL to prove she was more than effective of competing.
Now, the focus is solely on rehabbing, which she still has a very long way to go before potentially hitting the slopes again, but to compete at another Winter Games, she’d have to wait another four years and would be 45 by the time the 2030 Games come around.
Fans seem to be rallying around Vonn, encouraged by her comments that hint her career may not be over.
“She will be skiing soon, count on it,” one fan wrote.
“You’re stubborn but inspiring. I hope to see you again on the skis someday,” another added.
“Ain’t no way she’s going out like that! If she can, she will be back and I’m rooting for her!” one fan said.
“Get it, girl!!! Love you!!” another commented.
