Several prominent right-wing influencers, many of whom previously voiced support for President Donald Trump and his policies, are now denouncing the president following his escalating threats against Iran.
Trump’s war with Iran, and especially his threat on Easter Sunday that an entire civilization could be obliterated if Tehran did not reopen the Strait of Hormuz, has deepened divisions within the MAGA movement, prompting some conservative allies to publicly denounce the president. Several posts from the influencers have called for the 25th Amendment to be invoked against Trump.
Among the conservative voices now speaking out against Trump are high-profile conservative figures such as Candace Owens, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Alex Jones, Megyn Kelly, Tucker Carlson, and Nick Fuentes.
Newsweek reached out to the White House via email for comment.
Candace Owens
Owens, the American political commentator, author, and media personality known for her outspoken conservative views and large online following, previously spoke in favor of Trump during his presidential campaigns. Now, however, she has changed her views, even going so far as to call for his removal from office by invoking the 25th Amendment.
“The 25th amendment needs to be invoked. He is a genocidal lunatic. Our Congress and military need to intervene. We are beyond madness,” Owens posted earlier this week on X.
In a follow-up post made two days later, Owens shared another screenshot of a Truth Social Post from Trump.
“It may be time to put Grandpa up in a home,” she wrote.
Marjorie Taylor Greene
The former Georgia representative was once one of Trump’s biggest supporters, but has become a vocal critic of the president, particularly on issues relating to foreign policy, health care and the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files. She resigned from Congress earlier in January after falling out with Trump last year.
“President Trump has gone mad as he wages war against Iran, a broken campaign promise,” she wrote in a post on X on Thursday. “I fought alongside Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens, and Alex Jones to help get Trump elected. And now he goes off on a rambling rant attacking all of us in one post. We NEVER changed, Trump did. AMERICA FIRST!!!”
Earlier in the week, Greene called for invoking the 25th Amendment on one of her other social media accounts after Trump posted on Truth Social that “a whole civilization will die tonight,” referring to Iran.
“25TH AMENDMENT!!! Not a single bomb has dropped on America. We cannot kill an entire civilization. This is evil and madness,” she wrote.
Alex Jones
Jones, the conspiracy theorist and founder of Infowars, called for further investigation into first lady Melania Trump’s Thursday address, in which she denied ties to Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex offender who died in jail in 2019 while awaiting further charges.
“Melania Trump just contradicted her husband and said that the Epstein case cover-up is real and needs to be investigated. In the below report, I respond to President Trump’s unprecedented attack against myself and his other former top supporters,” Jones posted on X on Thursday.
Megyn Kelly
The conservative commentator and former Fox News host addressed Trump’s recent inflammatory comments against Iran on a recent episode of The Megyn Kelly Show, saying: “I am sick of this s***…Can’t he just behave like a normal human?”
She continued, “shut up about that sh**! You don’t threaten to wipe out an entire civilization. We’re talking about civilians, just casually in a social media post,” she said in reference to Trump’s Tuesday Truth Social post.
“I am the first to try to understand Trump and his strategy and not freak out over his weird social media posts and language that is loose and incendiary,” she said, later adding, “But this is completely irresponsible and disgusting. This is wrong. It’s wrong. He should not be doing it.”
Kelly continued: “He can’t be a dignified, strong leader without threatening a bunch of war crimes? Like what is he, Genghis Khan?”
Tucker Carlson
Conservative political commentator and former Fox News host Carlson also spoke out against Trump’s Easter message to Iran.
“‘Open the F***** strait.’ How dare you speak that way on Easter morning to the country? Who do you think you are? You’re tweeting out the F-word on Easter morning? To send out a tweet with the F-word on Easter morning promising the murder of civilians and then saying praise be to Allah?…That is evil. It is vile on every level,” Carlson said in a video posted on X.
“A promise to use the U.S. military to destroy civilian infrastructure that people use every day? That is a war crime. A moral crime. Innocent people will die. That is unacceptable. It is immoral. It can never be justified,” he said.
Nick Fuentes
Fuentes, an American far‑right political commentator and live streamer known for leading a white‑nationalist online movement and for repeated controversies involving antisemitism, Holocaust denial, and extremist rhetoric, once dined with Trump at the president’s Mar-a-Lago resort in November 2022.
In a recent livestream, Fuentes had a potent message about the long-term health of the MAGA movement.
“F*** MAGA. It’s dead. MAGA is dead, we are America First,” he said.
Trump’s Response to MAGA Splintering
In a lengthy Truth Social post Thursday afternoon, Trump called out Carlson, Kelly, Owens, Greene and Jones by name, saying that they have “Low IQs” and are “stupid people.”
The post continued, “They don’t have what it takes, and they never did! They’ve all been thrown off Television, lost their Shows, and aren’t even invited on TV because nobody cares about them, they’re NUT JOBS, TROUBLEMAKERS, and will say anything necessary for some “free” and cheap publicity.”
The president said that “their views are the opposite of MAGA” and “MAGA agrees with me, and just gave CNN a 100% Approval Rating of ‘TRUMP,’ not Hand Flailing Fools like Tucker Carlson, who couldn’t even finish College, he was a broken man when he got fired from Fox, and he’s never been the same — Perhaps he should see a good psychiatrist! Or Megyn Kelly, who nastily asked me the now famous, ‘Only Rosie O’Donnell,’ question, or ‘Crazy’ Candace Owens, who accuses the Highly Respected First Lady of France of being a man, when she is not, and will hopefully win lots of money in the ongoing lawsuit…Or Bankrupt Alex Jones, who says some of the dumbest things, and lost his entire fortune, as he should have, for his horrendous attack on the families of the Sandy Hook shooting victims, ridiculously claiming it was a hoax.”
Trump added, “These so-called ‘pundits’ are LOSERS, and they always will be.”
The president concluded the post writing, “MAGA is about WINNING and STRENGTH in not allowing Iran to have Nuclear Weapons. MAGA is about MAKING AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, and these people have no idea how to do that, BUT I DO, because THE UNITED STATES IS NOW THE “HOTTEST” COUNTRY ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD!”
