A 30-year-old former substitute teacher was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Wednesday after she was convicted of paying middle school students for sex as well as providing them with drugs and alcohol.
Carissa Jane Smith of Dixon, Mo. was arrested in November of last year and charged with 19 felony counts including statutory rape and child sex trafficking, the Kansas City Star reported.
Smith utlimately pleaded guilty to lesser charges this past September.
According to authorities, Smith, who worked at multiple schools within the Dixon R-1 School District, would pay students $100 or more either in cash or through CashApp in exchange for sex acts, KRCG-TV reported.
Smith is also alleged to have supplied students with alcohol or marijuana in exchange for sex.
The alleged abuse was not limited to one-on-one encounters.
In one instance, a student was allegedly recruited by a classmate who asked if “they wanted to do some work and make some money for work” before taking them to Smith’s residence, where the abuse occurred while the friend waited outside.
Court documents details other shocking claims, including one student who alleged that Smith forced him to ejaculate insider her.
When the victim expressed his distress, stating, “That was f–ked up,” Smith’s alleged response was to offer him more money.
Authorities alleged that Smith went to great lengths to cover up her actions, including by repeatedly warnings victims not to talk about their encounters or she would “get into trouble.”
When one of Smith’s victims was said to have in his possession video of her performing oral sex, Smith “smashed” the student’s phone to destroy the recording, court documents alleged.
Smith is also alleged to have told her husband that one of her victims was blackmailing her with a video of them smoking marijuana — prompting the husband to threaten the boy with a baseball bat.
In another instance, Smith’s brother-in-law is alleged to have caught her in bed with an underage student after he had heard a rumor about a circulating video.
Smith is alleged to have abused minors in various locations, including her home — often when her husband was away for work, according to authorities.
Other locations where the alleged abuse took place was in Smith’s car as well as in more isolated places, such as “on the side of the road or even on gravel roads.”
On Sept. 17, Smith pleaded guilty to lesser charges as part of a plea agreement , including two counts of sexual contact with a student and one count of first degree endangering the welfare of a child.
Smith’s attorney could not be reached for comment.
