Michael Duarte‘s wife, Jessica, posted an emotional statement in the wake of her husband’s death.
Jessica admitted she has “struggled with what to do” since the death of Micheal, also known as Food With Bear Hands, in a lengthy post shared via his Instagram account on Thursday, November 13.
“I feel so touched and proud to know so many people that he has inspired over his time here on earth. I plan to keep his legacy going not only for him but his family,” Jessica wrote. “He gave everyone every bit of him so it’s my turn to give it back. I’m not quite sure what that looks like yet but hopefully he will lead me on that path.”
She added, “Thank you to everyone who has reached out. The outpouring love has really given me strength. I can feel him moving mountains❤️ a big thank you to my tribe & Mike’s BBQ community for making me feel like I have an army behind me.”
Jessica explained she was still grieving the loss of Michael, who died on November 8, just three days after the couple celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary. (The couple share a 6-year-old daughter, Oakley.)
“I’m still struggling with the fact that he is no longer with us but l’m starting to see his purpose was SO much bigger. I’m starting to see God work in mysterious ways that l’ve never experienced before and hoping that will bring our family some peace,” she continued.
Jessica went on to add that funeral arrangements have not yet been finalized and urged people not to spread false narratives surrounding the nature of Michael’s death.
She concluded the post, “Mike, I’m proud to be your wife and I will carry that title with honor for the rest of my life. See you on the other side, Daddy ❤️.”
Jessica previously shared a heartfelt tribute to her late husband via Instagram on Sunday, November 9, in the aftermath of the tragic news.
“It’s been 24 hours since my world came crashing down. I’m numb, angry, depressed. Words can’t describe this kind of pain. I never thought I would be writing this,” she wrote. “To the world you were foodwithbearhands but to us you were a loving husband and father. You didn’t deserve this. I will love you forever and I will be strong for our daughter and I know how much you loved us. If everyone can stop and please pray for our family. To my husband I will miss you…until we meet again 💔.”
Duarte’s talent agency, Alooma Media Group, posted a statement about Michael’s death via Instagram the same day.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our valued client and dear friend, Michael Duarte,” the agency said. “Michael was so much more than a client to us at Alooma. He was a true & loyal partner, a trusted collaborator, and above all, a remarkable person. His passion, professionalism and creativity left a lasting mark not only on our team but on everyone who had the privilege of working with him.”
The statement continued, “Beyond his professional accomplishments, Michael was a devoted husband to his wife Jessica, a loving father to his daughter, brother and a loyal friend to so many around the world,” the agency went on. “His warmth, kindness and generosity were felt in every interaction, and he had a way of making everyone around him feel valued and inspired.”
