A mom’s side-by-side photos of her 3-year-old daughter before and after nursery have left TikTok users in stitches.
Shelby Hayes (@shelbyhayes4) from the Northwest of England shared the first image of her toddler looking presentable with her hair neatly tied back with a headband, a sunny-print dress perfectly in place and a big smile.
“Before nursery, she was clean and tidy,” Hayes told Newsweek.
The second photo, taken just hours later, shows a striking transformation.
Her hair is in disarray, she’s sporting a pair of swim goggles, and her dress and face are smeared with what Hayes described as “a mixture of mud, paint, many layers of suncream and possibly her dinner.”
When she picked her up from daycare, Hayes laughed out loud. “This is something we are very used to, and are very happy seeing,” she said.
“After nursery she looked like a completely different child and a lot more messier,” she laughed.
Her daughter attends a “nature nursery,” which means plenty of time spent outdoors.
“[She’s] exploring, building, making mud pies and riding bikes down hills,” Hayes explained. “She’s very lucky to have such opportunities—the nursery is amazing.”
The reveal happened the moment Hayes stepped into the foyer at pickup. “They opened the door and she comes running out looking like this,” she said.”
Hayes’ clip has gone viral in a matter of days. With almost 500,000 views and hundreds of comments, many users agreed that it looked like her daughter had fun.
“Nursery workers are underpaid individuals,” one remarked.
“I keep comparing the two pics. Are you sure they gave you the right child back,” another laughed.
“Where is her headband?” a third user questioned. “We will never know,” Hayes replied.
Another asked about the little girl’s shoes. “We take them off at the door to empty the remains of the mud and sand,” Hayes explained in the comments.
“The reaction on tiktok was totally unexpected,” Hayes told Newsweek. “Ninety-nine of it has been so positive and knowing it’s made other people laugh as much as us is amazing.
“The one percent of negative comments are expected, but in my eyes, yes, she may be absolutely rotten, but she’s happy and so are we.”
