A Michigan mom who woke up to an empty bed without her husband couldn’t believe what she came downstairs to find.
Abigail Nelson, 33, posted a clip on TikTok where she explained what happened after a rare date night with her husband Kenneth, 45.
When Abigail had woke up at 9 a.m.—well past her usual weekend routine—she was disoriented.
With a trusted babysitter home from college for winter break, the couple finally felt ready to leave the baby with someone new the night before. They went out to dinner at a Mediterranean restaurant filled with family memories, then headed to an arcade-style venue for drinks and games.
Abigail typically gets up as soon as the kids stir, letting Kenneth sleep in when he can. Finding both her bed and the baby’s crib empty left her confused, rested and suddenly guilty.
“I know how busy Saturday mornings can be, and I knew how late we were up the previous night, so I wanted to get downstairs and be ready to help ASAP,” Abigail told Newsweek.
Instead, she stopped in her tracks. In her TikTok video, she captured Kenneth and their 13-month-old baby, Adelbert, curled up asleep on the floor of the playroom, surrounded by toys.
“My heart swelled with joy, pride and love,” Abigail said. Quietly, she let them sleep, greeted their 9-year-old son, Aiden—already awake and playing a math game on the family laptop—then snuck back for her phone to capture the moment.
Later, her husband explained that the baby had woken at 5 a.m. When he couldn’t get him back to sleep, he brought him downstairs to play. After about an hour, the baby dozed off on the mat—and rather than risk waking him, Kenneth lay down beside him and fell asleep too.
Abigail’s clip has gone viral on TikTok, clocking up over 329,000 views. In the comments, users called Kenneth a walking “green flag” and praised him for letting his wife sleep.
Others encouraged Abigail to go back to bed given the baby was safe with his dad.
“They looked so angelic, peaceful and happy sleeping there,” she said. “It was beautiful to me. It was even more wonderful that we had just had such a bonding, happy, carefree night without the kids, then I got a great sleep on top of it for the first time in 11 months.”
“It was one of those nights [and] mornings that feels like hitting the jackpot,” she added.
