A learner motorcyclist has been assaulted by a member of the Mongols outlaw motorcycle gang while riding on the Monash Freeway.
Dashcam footage shows the unidentified L-plate motorcyclist being surrounded by five members of the Mongols travelling at speed. One member of the gang tries to punch and kick the L-plater as they ride alongside each other.
Victoria Police have not yet identified the L-plater or the members of the Mongols. Detectives from the Echo Taskforce say the assault happened “for no apparent reason”.
The assault occurred at 12.15pm on Saturday, October 19, on the Monash Freeway near the Wellington Road exit.
Detective Acting Inspector Alan Rumble of the Echo Taskforce said Victoria Police was “not intimidated by outlaw motorcycle gangs, and we will not allow our community to be either”.
“Targeting an innocent L-plate motorbike rider who was simply going about his day is seriously reckless and cowardly behaviour,” Rumble said.
“We have made it a priority to follow up every avenue of inquiry available to us and to hold those responsible to account. If you have dash-cam footage of this incident or you witnessed it, please get in touch with police.”
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
