The Nebraska Cornhuskers suffered one of the biggest transfer portal hits of the college football season when former five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola announced his decision to leave the school.
Raiola was the top recruit brought in by head coach Matt Rhule, and one of the true five-star players to shine a spotlight on the Cornhusker program.
But after two average years in Lincoln, Raiola hit the portal looking to land at a more high-profile program better suited to skillset.
While disappointing, Rhule admitted to reporters that he’s confident he can find a suitable replacement given how many players enter the transfer portal these days.

“The portal will giveth and the portal will taketh away,” Rhule said. “It’s just the new normal and we have to embrace it. … [Raiola] did a great job for us, getting us to back-to-back bowl games.
“We’re really grateful for all he did, and if he needs a fresh start, I’ll pray that he finds the right place and has a lot of success. With that being said, there are a lot of great quarterbacks out there, and a lot of them want to play at Nebraska.”
With several top college signal-callers hitting the portal in recent days — a group that includes Raiola, DJ Lagway, Sam Leavitt, Brendan Sorsby, Drew Mestemaker, and plenty more — Nebraska is reportedly in contention for one of the top QBs looking for a new home, according to a report from Pete Nakos of On3.

“Two schools have been mentioned early on for the Michigan State quarterback,” Nakos wrote. “Sources have linked Aidan Chiles to Cincinnati and Nebraska. The Cornhuskers are not only looking at one quarterback.
“Sources have said Matt Rhule is evaluating the entire quarterback field in the portal, and that could include Boston College’s Dylan Lonergan and Notre Dame’s Kenny Minchey, among others.”
After two subpar seasons at Michigan State, Chiles, a former four-star recruit and the No. 58-ranked player nationally in the class of 2023 according to 247Sports, left after head coach Jonathan Smith was fired.
The 20-year-old junior threw for 1,392 yards, 10 touchdowns and three interceptions in eight games this season. In three seasons with MSU and Oregon State, Chiles has totaled 4,116 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions.
