The Baltimore Ravens missed the playoffs on the final play of the 2025 NFL regular season. The following day, Baltimore fired head coach John Harbaugh after 18 seasons. It didn’t take long for the New York Giants to hire Harbaugh as their next head coach. So far, Harbaugh and the Giants’ brass have acted with urgency to ensure the Giants don’t miss the playoffs for the fourth-straight year in 2026.
The new league year began on March 11, and the annual NFL free agency frenzy came with it. The Giants have been very active.
New York has agreed to terms with 11 unrestricted free agents from other teams and re-signed four Giants, including guard Evan Neal and wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins.
Harbaugh targeted a few familiar faces: Former Ravens tight end Isaiah Likely, longtime Ravens fullback Patrick Ricard, former Ravens safety Ar’Darius Washington, and former Ravens punter Jordan Stout. The Giants have also prioritized making life easier on quarterback Jaxson Dart as he enters his second year.
On Saturday, the Giants announced they have agreed to terms with former Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Darnell Mooney, pending a physical. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the deal is for one year and is worth up to $10 million.
The Falcons released Mooney on Wednesday after two seasons. The 28-year-old posted 64 catches for 992 yards and five touchdowns in 2024, but his production cratered last season. He caught just 32 of 72 targets for 443 yards and one touchdown last season.
Malik Nabers, the Giants’ 2024 No. 6 overall pick, will resume duties as the team’s No. 1 wide receiver once he’s fully recovered from a torn ACL suffered last October. But if Mooney can solve his drop problem from last year, he should help open up the Giants’ offense. He has been known as a field-stretching deep threat since joining the NFL as the Chicago Bears’ fifth-round pick in 2020.
New York needed to make a move at wide receiver after losing Wan’Dale Robinson to the Tennessee Titans in free agency. After Nabers’ injury, Robinson stepped up. He was, by far, Dart’s most reliable target. Robinson led all Giants receivers with 92 catches, 1,014 yards, and four touchdowns in 16 regular-season games last season.
The Giants are set to pick at No. 5 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, beginning on April 23. Reports from ESPN’s Jordan Raanan and SNY’s Connor Hughes indicated that Harbaugh’s vision for the Giants is for the team’s offense to orbit around a dominant running game. Jeremiyah Love, a Heisman finalist running back out of Notre Dame, visited with the Giants on Saturday.
