New York City beaches and pools were set to close for the year on Sunday — but a new bill could stretch the season well into October if it becomes law.
The bill — introduced in January by City Council Member Shekar Krishnan — would extend the summer season to the second Sunday in October, and stretch each day’s operating hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. It would also move the official opening date back to the second Saturday in May.
That’s more than a month of extra days for Big Apple bathers, and four more hours daily — the current season typically runs from Memorial Day in May to Labor Day in September, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
