A Reddit user went viral after sharing a picture of the cat they rescued recently, and the surprise that she kept hidden from them for the first two days.
In a viral post shared on Wednesday by u/Diligent_Pilot_1949, the white fluffy kitty can be seen lying down on a basket covered in a fuzzy blanket, feeding the four surprise kittens she gave birth to after being rescued.
“I thought I rescued one cat and two days later this happened,” the caption says.
A cat’s pregnancy lasts about 63–65 days and is divided into three roughly 20‑day trimesters. Early on, physical changes are subtle, though nipples may become pinker and more noticeable.
Pet MD explains that as pregnancy progresses, cats often become calmer, hungrier, and develop a rounder abdomen. In the final weeks, their belly enlarges significantly, breast tissue swells, and they begin grooming more and searching for a quiet nesting spot.
Veterinarians can confirm pregnancy through palpation, ultrasound, or X‑rays at different stages.
Pregnant cats need a high‑calorie diet formulated for growth or reproduction, offered in small, frequent meals. They should ideally be vaccinated before pregnancy, and parasite prevention must be continued with products proven safe for expectant cats.
Monitoring for illness is important, as symptoms like vomiting, loss of appetite, or vaginal discharge require prompt veterinary attention.
As labor approaches, most cats stop eating and become restless. Delivery typically occurs within six hours, though breaks between kittens can happen. After birth, kittens should be kept warm and dry, and the mother should be allowed to nurse without interruption.
Postpartum monitoring ensures both mother and kittens remain healthy.
The post quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 70,000 upvotes and 715 comments on the platform.
One user, Offinthepasture, commented: “You got a bunch of marshmallows, one pre-toasted.”
NightVat42 said: “At least it was cats. My sister had that happen with a rescue horse. Granted it was longer than two days. She thought the rescue was putting on some needed weight until the vet said ‘You know she’s pregnant, right?”
IDontLikeGreenPeas added: “Mama looks just as annoyed and inconvenienced as you probably do.”
