A boy mom who was desperate to finally have a daughter decided to give it one more shot, thinking her fourth child would be the last. What she and her husband weren’t counting on however was that this would also result in babies five and six.
Lindsey Wiley, 32, loves being a boy mom to her children aged 5, 3, and 18 months. They bring her so much joy, laughter and love (and of course, plenty of frights from time to time).
But as someone who always dreamed of having a girl, she couldn’t help but feel that sense of longing. Wiley, from Delaware, told Newsweek that she and her husband “always knew [they] wanted a big family,” so they discussed the idea of having a fourth child.
“I come from a family of only girls, so I always told my husband I wanted a girl for him so he could experience that special relationship,” Wiley said. “I love being a boy mom so much, but I think at the end of the day, I still always wanted to experience having both. Dressing a girl, doing girl things, or even just watching the brother-sister relationship grow.”
The couple pride themselves on always being so on board with one another and making decisions in unison. While having a fourth child was a big decision, they knew this was what they both wanted.
One more to try for a girl and that would be their last. At least, that was the idea.
As it turned out, the family is about to get a whole lot bigger. During an ultrasound scan early in the pregnancy, the couple learned that they’d conceived natural, spontaneous triplets, due this fall.
“I felt immediate shock and fear honestly, knowing I still have three babies at home depending on me. Thinking of the day-to-day moments of how I was going to handle it really made me spiral,” Wiley continued.
The idea of having six kids was incredibly exciting but also terrifying to comprehend. As for their three boys, they can’t wait for the triplets to arrive later this year.
Wiley said: “My husband has been my rock and has been so positive and uplifting. Thankfully, I do have my village and family less than 5 miles away, who I know will be there for me whenever I need them.
“I know my older boys are excited and ready to be my helpers. It’s going to be interesting and definitely an adventure, but after having three kids already, you learn that nothing lasts forever.”
The couple finally got their wish, because while two of the triplets are boys, they are finally expecting a girl.
Once the shock subsided, Wiley realized what an unusual and humorous experience this is. She couldn’t resist documenting this next phase of their lives on social media (@wileypartyof8 on Instagram and TikTok).
Following a recent social media trend, she shared a post joking that she “told [her] husband [she] wanted to try” for a girl, only to reveal a photo from their triplet gender reveal. The post went viral with over 4.1 million views on Instagram and 5 million views on TikTok.
Wiley told Newsweek that her “jaw drops” every time she sees how much attention the post has generated.
“It was never our intention for it to get so big, it was just a fun TikTok trend. Don’t get me wrong, there’s been some really negative comments, but there’s also been a ton of uplifting messages that have helped from moms who’ve already gone through it,” Wiley said.
Thousands of social media users have commented on the posts across both platforms, with many congratulated the couple on finally getting their girl (and two bonus boys).
One comment reads: “3 to 6 is WILD.”
Another Instagram user wrote: “We are proud of this little girl who made her way through the crowd of boys.”
Another person joked: “Buy 1 get 2 free deal is a steal.”
