The Players Championship had a historic finish last week with Rory McIlroy joining an elite club of multiple Players and Majors winners. Prior to the playoff against JJ Spaun, McIlroy had to fend off a host of others.
One of the underdog stories that people were pulling for was that of Michael Kim. Kim had recently finished solo fourth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Despite missing out on the weekend at The PLAYERS, Kim could not control himself from posting over X regarding Rory’s drivers, putting style, and golfing decisions. “lol driver on 18 for Rory is an alpha move,” he commented on Monday.
But that’s not all, as soon as McIlroy won his $4.5 million prize, Kim posted his thoughts over the Players saying, it “is the best run tournament in the world,” and more.
Interestingly, it also included his thoughts on the next PGA Tour’s $8.7M purse event, the Valspar Championship starting on Thursday. Kim dropped a hysterical notion as to why he will tee it up this week.
“Heard Valspar upgraded player dining after Keith gave them criticism about it haha. Everyone agreed with Keith, and we’ll see if they made any meaningful changes,” he wrote.
On a more serious note, this tournament also provides another pathway to Augusta National for the 31-year-old pro.
“I wasn’t sure if I was playing Valspar, but since I had a couple extra days of rest, decided to play,” Kim posted on X.
“I like the golf course and I want to give myself as many chances at qualifying for the Masters.”
Thoughts from Players:
-Personally, from a player’s perspective, I think The Players is the best run tournament in the world. Everything from the gym, food, practice facility, parking, and staff, it’s all first class.
-Every yr I play this tournament, I appreciate the design of…— Michael S. Kim (@Mike_kim714) March 17, 2025
The Masters are just 22 days away, and the Valspar Championship is going to be the ultimate test for the 31-year-old. But amid all the stress, Kim doesn’t forget to give it ‘back to the game.’ And we say that for a reason.
On Monday, Kim took it to X again to give free tickets for the Valspar Championship. “Keeping the good vibes going. Who is local and wants tickets to Valspar?” He posted.
“It’s a great field on a real test with some wind in the forecast the first two days. Kids under 15 are free, and I generally pick ones that want to go with their kids,” the PGA Tour pro continued.
This was not the first time Kim did it. The Cal Berkeley graduate kept his word during the Players Championship as well. The lucky family who got the free tickets were the Hardens, who later paid their gratitude to the PGA Tour winner.
“Can’t thank Mike Kim enough for giving us tickets to the PLAYERS! What a wonderful day!” Aaron Hardens posted on X.
Kim’s kind gesture didn’t go unnoticed, and it’s clear that he’s committed to giving back to the game and the community.
As the Valspar Championship approaches, all eyes will be on Kim, but it’s his off-course actions that truly showcase his character.
Sadly, the field was weakened when Akshay Bhaitia withdrew from the Copperhead Course event.
