A police helicopter has crashed in Arizona as police responded to an active shooter in Flagstaff.
“We have been advised the Flagstaff shooting suspect is in custody,” the Page Police Department said on its Facebook page.
“However, a police helicopter has crashed near the incident location. Please keep the Flagstaff community and law enforcement in your thoughts and prayers.”
There was no immediate information of injuries or how many people were on board.
Newsweek contacted the Flagstaff Police Department and Arizona Department of Public Safety for comment by email.
The helicopter was from the Arizona Department of Public Safety, AZFamily reported.
Local resident Amanda Brewer told the publication she heard lots of gunshots both before and after the chopper came down at around 10 p.m.
“You could hear the blades going,” Brewer told AZFamily. “Then there was a very large crash; it shook the house. It was startling.”
Flagstaff Police Department had said they were investigating the shooting in the neighborhood north of W Route 66 between Mark Ln and S Thompson Rd.
“There is no ongoing threat to the public,” they said in a social media post.
