Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell are still chatting about their hit movie, Anyone But You.
“We wanted everything to be an activity,” Sweeney, 27, said of her and Powell’s connection while promoting the 2023 rom-com in an interview with The Wall Street Journal published on Wednesday, August 20. “And then the audience and the people were the ones who created all the other narratives.”
While Sweeney and Powell, 36, were both in relationships with others at the time, they still sparked romance rumors due to their sizzling chemistry. Sweeney and Powell have maintained they are just friends. (Sweeney was engaged to now-ex Jonathan Davino while Powell was in a relationship with now-ex Gigi Paris.)
Anyone But You was a box office success, and Sweeney previously teased that a sequel could be in the works.
“I can’t actually reveal all of my secrets,” the actress teased to E! News in February 2024, adding that she was “talking to [Powell] this morning … We’re talking about stuff.”
More than a year later, Powell shared in a Wednesday interview with The Hollywood Reporter that he and Sweeney are “still talking” about a potential sequel. The actor added that he and Sweeney agreed to not make a follow-up “until it’s the right idea,” which “requires patience.”
Since Anyone But You premiered, Sweeney and Powell have remained close. After Sweeney called off her wedding to Davino earlier this year, she reunited with Powell at his younger sister Leslie’s wedding.
“There is nothing going on romantically between Glen and Sydney. They are just friends,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly in March 2025. “Sydney is close with the entire family.”
The insider added that the Euphoria star has “been close friends for a long time” with Leslie and “brought one of her girlfriends to the wedding as a guest.”
A few months later, Paris seemingly shaded Powell and Sweeney — without naming names — for fueling the romance rumors.
“I just wanted respect, especially if it’s gonna be public,” Paris said on a June episode of the “Too Much” podcast. “Like, don’t make an ass out of me. Like, just don’t make a fool out of someone you’ve been with for over three years, talking about forever with. Just have some decency, you know? And at the end of the day, it was like, well, work comes first. And if that’s the case, power to you, that’s your priority. I gotta walk away. What sucked was how it was handled. I felt like I was just fed to the dogs.”
