Lewis Hamilton’s father, Anthony Hamilton, was seen consoling VCARB’s rookie Formula One driver Isack Hadjar after he crashed during the formation lap of a wet Australian Grand Prix. The crash ended his Formula One debut race even before it officially began, leading Hadjar to wipe his tears as he walked back to his garage.
Hadjar crashed at Turn 2, becoming one of the six drivers who secured a DNF in a tricky race where weather conditions remained unpredictable. A dejected Hadjar kept his helmet on as he made his way back, only to be stopped by Hamilton, who embraced him and offered a few uplifting words to boost his spirit.
The kind gesture has attracted huge praise for Hamilton on social media, as Hadjar seemed comforted by his gesture. Speaking after the crash, the 20-year-old driver said:
“Just embarrassed and sorry for the team.
“I mean, I overdid it, over-slipped the rears, once I lost the car I tried to save it, bit I was just a passenger. Just not so fast, I didn’t expect it.” [sic]
When he was asked what Anthony Hamilton told him, he said:
“Yeah, just keep my head high and improve myself. I did well yesterday, nice stuff.”
With Lewis Hamilton being one of the F1 drivers Hadjar looks up to, being supported by his father would have helped greatly during his low moment. Addressing the kind gesture by Lewis’s father, Hadjar added:
“It means a lot knowing that he knew where I was, how bad I felt, to go and see me in the worst moment ever. I think it’s nice just from him. I really appreciate that.”
Hadjar was also visited by Formula One president and CEO Stefano Domenicali, who offered his support. He said:
“Stefano came into my driver’s room and said similar things [to Hamilton]. It’s nice to feel the support from them. It’s nice just nice.”
The 2025 F1 season set off with a tense race as rain kept teams and drivers on their toes with constant tire strategy changes. In the end, pole sitter Lando Norris claimed victory, followed by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Mercedes driver George Russell in third.
