Teddi Mellencamp got emotional while alluding to her alleged affair with horse trainer Simon Schroeder in a new interview.
“I’ve never talked about it at all just because of the kids,” Mellencamp, 44, said during “The Jamie Kern Lima Show” podcast. “I’ve never wanted anybody to have a guarantee whether it happened or didn’t happen. But what I can say is, did I do things that hurt other people? Yes.”
She added, “To this day, does it still hurt my heart and I wonder if that’s why I got cancer? Yes. Like, it was my payback. Nothing goes without payment, I guess.” (Mellencamp was diagnosed with melanoma in 2022 and it has since metastasized to her brain and lungs.)
Us Weekly reported details in November 2024 about Mellencamp’s alleged affair with her horse trainer, which took place months before she separated from husband Edwin Arroyave. (Daily Mail was first to break the news.)
Mellencamp explained during Tuesday’s podcast episode that she tried to “minimize everybody’s pain” when the news went public. It has since been confirmed that Arroyave had an affair a decade ago.
“Not only do you have yourself, you have your significant other, your kids, the other person’s significant other, their kids,” she continued. “I mean, so many people are hurt in the wreckage. But I can say this from knowing, the wreckage doesn’t happen on its own.”
Mellencamp explained that she was “so broken” during that time of her life that she “did things out of my better judgment.”
News of Mellencamp’s alleged affair broke after the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star announced in November 2024 that she and Arroyave, 48, split after 13 years of marriage.
“After a great deal of care and consideration, I have made the difficult decision to file for divorce,” Mellencamp captioned an Instagram post at the time. “My priority is my children and ensuring that every care is taken with their privacy and wellbeing throughout this new chapter.”
When she officially filed for divorce that same month, it was revealed that Mellencamp and Arroyave had been separated since October 2024. (While they are still separated, Mellencamp and Arroyave’s divorce has been put on hold as she continues to undergo a cancer battle.)
Mellencamp previously addressed her alleged affair with the horse trainer during a November 2024 episode of her “Two Ts in a Pod” podcast.
“I’m sure everyone has seen everything all over the worldwide web,” she said at the time. “What I can say, which I’m trying very … there’s multiple sides to every story.”
Mellencamp added, “I’m not going to confirm or deny anything. But there’s many people involved.”
