The Tennessee Titans look like they have already made their decision at No. 1 overall, with all signs pointing to Miami quarterback Cam Ward being the pick.
Of course, that has been the prevailing theory for quite a while now, but according to NFL Draft expert Todd McShay, the Titans have now canceled workouts with Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter, all but locking in Ward to Tennessee.
It also means that the Giants are faced with a decision: take the best overall player in Abdul Carter, or select your quarterback of the future in Sanders.
Well, per McShay, that decision is not a difficult one.
“So the Titans have respectfully canceled private workouts with Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders, making it all but official that they will take Cam Ward No. 1,” McShay said on X. “And now I’m starting to hear more and more about Hunter to Cleveland at No. 2. That would mean Abdul Carter vs. Shedeur for the Giants at No. 3. Not a difficult decision (in my opinion).”
If the Giants make that decision the way McShay expects them to, Carter will be in New York, and Sanders could potentially be sent on a first-round free fall.
McShay, of course, has Carter as the No. 1 player on his big board and thus believes him to be the best overall prospect in the 2025 class. Meanwhile, he has Sanders ranked 19th, and falling well outside of the top-five picks.
“For the first time in this entire process dating back to our very first show on October 22nd, I truly believe Shedeur Sanders is not gonna be a top-five pick,” McShay said about his big board. The conversations i’m having continue to surround this subject… You’ve got a certain grade on Travis Hunter. You’ve got a certain grade on Abdul Carter… if Cam Ward goes No. 1 and you’re sitting there at two and three and you have a quarterback need, you better have a damn high grade on Shedeur or else football logic tells you, ‘just take one of these blue players.'”
McShay believes a ‘blue player’ is a prospect who is a lock to be a future Pro Bowler. And it seems he does not see Sanders as one of those.
As for where Sanders could land if he does fall outside of the top five, it could theoretically still be New York. There is a chance the Jets take a quarterback at No. 7, but they also have plenty of other needs. Instead, it is more likely that the Giants will trade back into the first round to select Sanders if he falls outside the top-20 picks.
Outside of that, the Steelers have an obvious quarterback need at No. 21, while it is also not hard to imagine the Browns trading back up into the back part of Round 1 for a quarterback like Sanders.
But whatever the case, it appears Sanders—who was once thought to be a lock for the No. 1 pick a few months ago—could face a big fall.
