The National Weather Service warned that a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado has been located over Bridgeton and is moving northeast at a speed of 20 mph.
Residents in the storm’s path were urged to take immediate shelter.
Areas at risk include; St. Charles, Florissant, Alton, Maryland Heights, Hazelwood, Godfrey, Bridgeton, West Alton, Portage Des Sioux and Orchard Farms.
Interstate 70 in Missouri between exits 227 and 231 is also under the warning.
