A woman has gone viral for accidentally capturing a horrifying moment as she prepared to jet off on vacation.
Beth, who posts to TikTok under the username @xbethbrooks, shared a video on June 28 where she issued a warning to other travelers.
That warning: “Don’t try and be aesthetic by filming your suitcase being taken.”
Because, as Beth filmed her bright pink checked-in suitcase making its way to the inner workings of the airport on the carousel, she realized her passport was sitting on top of it.
She overlayed the short video with the sound of a person screaming, as her passport began to disappear from view.
After being checked in, your bag takes a journey through the airport before joining you on-board: it moves via the carousel to the airport’s baggage handling system, where it’s scanned, sorted and directed to the correct loading area, and also undergoes security screening, according to travel booking site Alternative Airlines.
Once sorted, baggage handlers load the luggage onto carts, where they’re driven across the tarmac and loaded onto the flight.
The complicated journey doesn’t always go to plan, and some passengers choose to keep smart tags in their luggage to help track it, in case the bag ends up on the wrong flight or fails to leave the airport.
But in Beth’s case, she was in luck, as she added in a caption: “I got it back luckily.”
And she explained in a comment that, after shedding a few tears, she told a staff member what had happened, and they stopped customers from placing their bags on the conveyor and found the passport, calling them “amazing.”
Her short video resonated with TikTok users, racking up more than 2.2 million views, as one commenter joked her “passport got priority boarding.”
Others had a more visceral reaction, as one put it: “I just screamed at my phone. I’m sooo glad you got it back.”
“When I realised, I gasped,” one wrote, another saying: “I didn’t notice at first!”
Another admitted they would have “been right behind it riding [on the conveyor belt],” as another agreed: “I would start climbing on the conveyor belt.”
And as one person summed it up: “New fear unlocked.”
