Internet users can’t get enough of an impatient senior Yorkshire terrier who demands to be fed exactly on time and makes sure his owner knows when she’s running late.
Dog owner Maria Paula, 33, shared a hilarious video of Cyrus, her 15-year-old dog, making it clear that he wanted to be fed after having to wait an entire two minutes past feeding time. His usual mealtimes are 9 a.m., 3 p.m., and 9 p.m.—but when it reached 9:02 p.m. and his bowl was still empty, he was not impressed.
Whenever Cyrus reaches peak hunger, Paula, of Pennsylvania, told Newsweek that he sits by his bowl to make a point, will “sigh dramatically,” and maybe even let out the occasional bark for good measure. But if being subtle doesn’t work, he takes action by carrying the bowl directly to his owner and showing the distinct lack of food inside.
“If I’m even a few minutes late with his meal, Cyrus gives me the most withering look, like I’ve broken some ancient law,” Paula said. “It’s all very dignified, but you can tell he’s unimpressed.”
Unfortunately for Cyrus, this has become quite a common occurrence as Paula has five other pets to feed and take care of. She explained that the precise schedule may slip sometimes, however Cyrus never lets her “forget who’s in charge.”
Thankfully, once the senior Yorkie gets fed, he quickly forgives his owner and is back to his happy self.
Paula continued: “He goes from stern sheriff to excited puppy in a split second. It’s adorable to see that transformation, even after all these years. His tail wags and his eyes sparkle. He eats with gusto but always maintains his dignity—no messy eating for Cyrus.”
Paula shared a clip of Cyrus demanding to be fed on TikTok (@thelatinalesbian) on April 4, and the post instantly went viral. At the time of writing, it has already amassed over 748,800 views and 120,500 likes as TikTok users can’t get enough of his antics.
If Cyrus was going to become an internet sensation, Paula knew it would be for his timekeeping and love of routine.
He may be in his senior years and one of the smallest members of the pack, but Paula tells Newsweek that he’s “definitely the leader.”
“Cyrus is the peacekeeper who is wise, calm, and always alert. Even at his age, he keeps a watchful eye on everyone. He’s truly the heart of our home, and I feel lucky every day to have him as part of the family,” Paula said.
Social media users have become obsessed with Cyrus demanding food, leading to more than 800 comments on the TikTok video so far. Of course, many commenters were quick to defend his actions and insisted he needed to be fed precisely on time.
One comment reads: “I’m surprised he waited until 9:02. A very patient gentleman indeed.”
Another TikTok user wrote: “9:01 grumbling. 9:02 protest. 9:03 the revolution begins.”
While another person added: “How dare you make him wait two extra minutes for his dinner.”
