Years of rising friction between Victoria Beckham and Nicola Peltz Beckham, the wife of her son Brooklyn Beckham, has finally boiled over into a full-blown family breakdown.
A source exclusively tells Us Weekly that “bad blood” persists between Victoria, 51, and Nicola, 30, dating back to before Nicola married Brooklyn, 26, in April 2022.
“Things never really got smoothed over, and you can tell it still affects everyone,” the source explained. “The tension is still present and it’s hard for Brooklyn at times. Brooklyn’s having a tough time with it. He’s super stubborn and just wants space from his family right now.”
Brooklyn’s desire to distance himself from his family was evident when he was notably absent at his father David Beckham’s 50th birthday party on Saturday, May 3.
The insider added, “He completely supports and stands by Nicola, and it has put a rift in his relationship with his parents. Nicola is outspoken and that is what has caused tension with his parents. She will defend Brooklyn a lot and is defensive. Brooklyn will always be on Nicola’s side, and that’s made things even more tense between him and his parents.”
Brooklyn has attempted to “mend” things with his parents, but David and Victoria “aren’t understanding of his side of the story.”
The insider added, “They asked him to come to the birthday party and Brooklyn refused, so they are all taking space right now.”
“David and Victoria just want all the drama to stop,” the source said. “They’re really upset that it’s all become so public. It’s embarrassing for them, especially since they’ve always tried to come across as this super tight, united family. Victoria wants all of her kids to get along and wants everyone to move on. It’s upsetting for her to see as a mother.”
Us Weekly has reached out to representatives for all parties involved.
A separate source told Us Weekly earlier this week that Brooklyn and Nicola requested a “separate meet-up” for David’s birthday, thanks in large part to another rift — this time, between Brooklyn and his brother Romeo’s girlfriend, Kim Turnbull.
Romeo and Kim, as well as the Beckhams’ two youngest kids — son Cruz, 20, and daughter Harper, 13 — were all present at David’s birthday bash in London, which also featured appearances from David’s celebrity friends like Tom Cruise, Eva Longoria and Gordon Ramsay.
David and Victoria shared a family photo after the festivities, which did not include and made no mention of Brooklyn or Nicola.
Despite the current turmoil, the second source told Us earlier this week that David and Victoria are still hopeful about Brooklyn “coming around” for reconciliation.
