With Jonathan Kuminga’s trade restriction getting lifted next month, eyes are on the Golden State Warriors, who are expected to explore deals to move on from the veteran forward.
Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Bucks have the biggest trade saga of the season playing out, as Giannis Antetokounmpo is reportedly mulling his future with the team.
The Warriors, like most teams in the league, have a level of interest in Antetokounmpo. However, they haven’t been pegged as a desired landing spot for the superstar forward at this time.
Currently, the New York Knicks and the Miami Heat have the former MVP’s attention, according to reports.
With the Heat recently popping up as potential suitors for Giannis, the hypothetical trade frameworks are getting revealed. Recently, Bleacher Report suggested a mock three-team deal, which includes the Heat, Warriors, and the Bucks, allowing everybody to move their most notable trade candidates.
Who do the Warriors Part With?
Obviously, Kuminga goes on the move, relocating to Milwaukee, where he would end up in more of a rebuilding situation. He would be joined by the All-Star guard Tyler Herro and the standout center Kel’el Ware. The Bucks would load up on five first-round picks, with Golden State’s 2026 selection involved as a lottery-protected pick.
The Warriors would also put an end to the Buddy Hield experience and cut ties with a homegrown player in Trayce Jackson-Davis. They would join Antetokounmpo in Miami.
Do the Warriors Get Better?
This scenario would be a reunion for Golden State, as they could land Andrew Wiggins once again. The 27-year-old former undrafted guard Drue Smith would also be involved.
Wiggins would be back like he never left. He didn’t end his six-year tenure with the Warriors on a bad note, but they clearly felt that landing a disgruntled Jimmy Butler would place them in a better situation.
In this case, they would have an opportunity to get the former teammates back together after they spent a short period playing on the same roster with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
When Wiggins left the Warriors, he was posting averages of 17.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and nearly one steal per game.
This year, Wiggins is producing 16.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.0 steals per game with the Heat in 22 games.
If Golden State gets involved in a Giannis deal, they probably want to be the ones picking up the Greek Freak. Ultimately, it will be up to Giannis to decide where he wants to go, and the Warriors aren’t on his shortlist at this time.
The positive news is that the Warriors would get better defensively in this case, and their key outgoing piece is expected to get dealt either way. Whether this is a trade framework they explore or not, the Warriors understand that they might need to make some changes before the deadline.
