A concerned woman met a dog who seemed all alone on a beach in Hawaii. She tried searching for her owner but soon realized her doggy tag revealed the truth: her owner would return.
While Lucy Carpenter, who is known on TikTok as @lucymcarpenter, was hanging out at the beach one day, she noticed a dog walking in the sand alone. The black dog walked a few steps into the water with a smile on her face. She then spent time rolling around in the sand. It looked like to Carpenter the dog was well taken care of, but she couldn’t find the owner.
Her March 21 TikTok video explains she wondered where the owner’s dog could be after not seeing one for an hour. Until she figured it out, she didn’t mind keeping the fur baby company. She played with the dog and petted her. Then it finally dawned on her to check the dog’s collar.
Turns out the dog, who is named Maji, knew to stay on the beach and wait for her owner, who was out surfing. The tag read: “Mom’s surfing. I’m waiting.”

Viewers fell head over heels for this dog patiently waiting, and as of Tuesday, the video reached over 7.7 million views and 1.6 million likes on TikTok.
“That’s the cutest thing,” one person said, while another pointed out: “The happiest doggo!!”
A third user commented: “I’m so happy that the dog has found so many kind people to wait with. I would be so worried it would get stolen.”
Others shared stories of dogs they’ve met in similar situations: “There’s a dog at a local park near me who has a tag that says ‘I live next door if your dog doesn’t want to play tell me to go home.’ He goes home every time I’ve ever told him to…”
The dog’s owner, @eileen.maji, jumped into the comment section, thanking viewers for their kind words. She said they’ve been doing this for the last six years. Her TikTok profile reveals she adopted Maji in Taiwan. The German Shepherd and Border Collie mix loves the water. She’ll even go surfing with her owner if the waves aren’t too big.
