Professional wrestling legend Sabu, real name Terry Brunk, sadly passed away on May 11, 2025, at 60 years old.

Most well-known for his time in ECW, Sabu was an innovator in hardcore wrestling, combining it with his signature high-flying style.

Needless to say, there aren’t enough words to describe the effect Sabu has had on the pro wrestling profession. That being said, one WWE Superstar believes he knows the proper way to honor him.

Recently, fan-favorite WWE Superstar Sami Zayn took to social media to share a social media post he made in 2022, stating that Sabu should be in the WWE Hall of Fame.

“This is a gut punch,” Zayn said of Sabu’s death. “I was pushing this agenda again a few weeks ago after Sabu had his final match.

“RIP Sabu. One of a kind, absolute legend, and a true game changer for professional wrestling.”

Sabu’s final match was a No Rope Barbed Wire match against Joey Janela with Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) on April 18, 2025, less than a month before he passed.

Zayn also shared an iconic clip of Sabu appearing in the darkness to challenge Tazz, arguably his greatest in-ring rival.

While many wrestlers and fans are easily in agreement that Sabu deserves to be honored in the WWE Hall of Fame, there is one person who may have an issue with the induction: Sabu himself.

In a December 2024 interview with DonutShopChronicles365, Sabu shared his feelings on the Hall of Fame, specifically noting that he didn’t do his best work in WWE and calling the entire establishment “bulls***.”

“I don’t know. Probably never, really,” Sabu said about a potential induction. “I’m not eligible for the WWE Hall of Fame, not that I want to be anyway, because I didn’t have a Hall of Fame career while I was there.”

“Rob Van Dam is Hall of Fame material too, but is Drew Carey? Is Drew Carey Hall of Fame material? He goes in it, that means it’s going to be bulls***,” Sabu concluded.

Whether he makes it in or not, it cannot be denied that Sabu is one of the most influential wrestlers of his era and his effect on the industry will still be felt for years to come.
