The New York Yankees have been under a lot of pressure this offseason after falling short in the American League Division Series last year.
They haven’t responded well to this pressure. In fact, the Yankees haven’t made any big moves in free agency or on the trade block, while the Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Boston Red Sox have taken steps forward. The Yankees need to make a big move to keep up.
FOX Sports’ Deesha Thosar called the Yankees the best fit in a free agency deal for Chicago Cubs slugger Kyle Tucker this winter.
“With the Yankees hibernating through the winter so far, there are only a couple of moves that could realistically save their offseason from being viewed as a failure,” Thosar wrote. “Signing Tucker makes too much sense on a Yankees team that one year ago whiffed on Juan Soto being their long-term left-handed offensive threat.
“Now, they have the opportunity to lock in one of the best all-around players in baseball. Tucker’s pull-heavy swing is essentially custom-built for Yankee Stadium’s right-field short porch. Plus, the Yankees have an advantage that no other team can offer: batting behind Aaron Judge.”
The Yankees need to make a move, and there isn’t a bigger splash available than Tucker.
It will likely cost the Yankees upward of $300 million to land Tucker, but that’s a price worth paying, especially if they can’t figure out a deal with Cody Bellinger.
Tucker would join Aaron Judge in the middle of the Yankees’ lineup for years to come. Pairing these two sluggers together would form one of the best duos in baseball.
