The bats were hot for the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday.
Angels batters combined for nine hits and 11 runs in an 11-4 win over the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. The win allowed the Angels to tie the four-game series and improve to 10-10 on the early season.
Angels designated hitter Mike Trout has been hot during the series. He earned a home run in the seventh inning, which was his fifth home run in the series with New York.
Per The Athletic, no visiting player had ever hit a home run against the Yankees in four straight days. In addition to making MLB history for that feat, Trout joined Jimmie Foxx, Darrell Evans, and George Bell for having the most home runs in a series against New York.
Trout made the most of his chances against New York on Thursday. He was only credited with two at-bats. The Yankees walked him three times.
Entering Thursday’s contest, Trout was batting .239 with six home runs and 15 RBIs in 18 appearances this season.
Fans on social media reacted to Trout’s feat.
“Trout really said yankee stadium is my house now. four straight days homering? first time ever that’s insane,” wrote a fan.
“Mike trout is too good. I know hes from NJ too. If the baseball gods are good they’ll give him a full year injury free,” posted another.
“There was once a day the Yankees would never let this happen,” argued a fan who thought the Yankees were to blame. “Any basic pitching and managerial talent would be walking this guy after what he did in the first 2 games of this series.”
The Angles are in second place in the American League West, trailing the Athletics by one game. Los Angeles will next host the San Diego Padres for Game 1 of a three-game series on Friday.
The Yankees pitching woes are also a story in this. New York’s pitching has been abysmal in recent days. The Yankees allowed the Angels to score 32 runs in the series.
New York is 10-9 overall before playing the Kansas City Royals at home on Friday to start a three-game series.
