Anytime a player is mentioned in the same breath as Kobe Bryant, they’re doing something right.
That’s exactly the situation Los Angeles Lakers point guard Luka Doncic finds himself in.
Though he missed the final few games of the regular season and isn’t eligible to win the NBA MVP award, Doncic still has something to celebrate.
The 27-year-old Slovenian led the league in scoring, averaging 33.5 points per game, while leading the Lakers in assists (8.3 per game), and ranking second in rebounds (7.7 per game).
But that’s not all. Doncic ended the year leading the league in points — something no Lakers player has done since Bryant two decades ago.
“The 2025-26 NBA Scoring Champion… Luka Dončić! 🪄 2nd scoring title in last 3 seasons. 🪄 6th active player with multiple scoring titles. 🪄 3rd season averaging 32+ PPG. 🪄 5th Laker in franchise history to win scoring title. 🪄 1st Laker to win scoring title since Kobe in 2006-07,” the NBA X account posted.
During that 2006-07 season, Bryant averaged 31.5 points per game and finished with 2,430 total points — 298 more than then-Cleveland Cavaliers guard LeBron James.
Despite playing in four fewer games than the second-leading scorer Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (2,117 points) Doncic (2,143 points) won the scoring title by 26 points.
He also had 105 more points than Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown, who finished third in scoring (2,038 points), and 117 points over Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant (2,026 points).
