New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani has condemned “antisemitic hatred” after several synagogues and homes in the borough of Queens were vandalized with swastikas overnight on Monday.
“I am horrified and angered by the swastikas painted on homes and synagogues in Queens, including on a plaque honoring survivors of Kristallnacht. This is not just vandalism — it is a deliberate act of antisemitic hatred meant to instill fear,” Mamdani wrote on X on Monday.
“There is no place for antisemitism in Queens or anywhere in our city. I stand in solidarity with our Jewish neighbors. Their safety, dignity, and belonging are non-negotiable.”
Mamdani said that the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force was investigating the incidents, and said he was confident that those responsible would be held accountable.
New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin shared photos of graffitied swastikas on X, which she described as “terrifying signals of hatred and threats of violence.”
The incidents come amid rising antisemitic attacks across the world.
