Analysis:
New head coach Jeff Hafley has his work cut out for him with all the turnover with the Dolphins’ roster.
Miami added some great talent in the draft — first-round offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor, first-round cornerback Chris Johnson, second-round linebacker Jacob Rodriguez, third-round WR Chris Bell — but the roster is severely talent deficient after cutting QB Tua Tagovailoa and trading receiver Jaylen Waddle.
New QB Malik Willis has one of the worst WR corps in the league, which features Bell, TuTu Atwell, Jalen Tolbert, and Malik Washington, but he does have the benefit of handing the ball off to De’Von Achane, who rushed for 1,350 yards and eight touchdowns last season.
The defense needs some work too after losing edge-rusher Bradley Chubb, linebacker K.J. Britt, and cornerback Jack Jones.
Miami signed edge-rushers Joshua Uche and David Ojabo, and they added some solid depth in the draft in Johnson, Rodriguez, fourth-round edge-rusher Trey Moore, fourth-round linebacker Kyle Louis, and fifth-round safety Michael Taaffe, but there will be growing pains.
The Dolphins won seven games with a much better roster last year, so a drop off to four or five wins should be expected as Hafley gets his feet wet in the coaching world.
