Tesla has launched its brand new SUV that is big on both EV range and size, not to mention the price tag as well, when compared to the previous Model Y.
The Austin, TX-based automaker debuted the Tesla Model Y L in the United States on Thursday, which was previously only available in Malaysia, China, Australia, and India.
The new product – available as a “Launch Series” vehicle – starts at $61,990, and is currently available to customize on the Tesla website.
The Y L was first announced in September 2025, and launched in China one month later, available for $47,000, before expanding to Malaysia, Australia and India.
While analysts predicted the US base model would be priced around $54,000 (via Electrek), the Launch Series is “fully loaded,” priced well above the Model Y Performance ($57,900) and the rear-wheel drive Model Y ($39,900).
The Model Y L also boasts a 325-mile range, longer than their previous electric vehicles (EVs) Model Y (321 miles) and Model Y Performance (306 miles).
The six-seat vehicle is configured in three rows, with a longer wheelbase (5.9 inches/150 mm) and longer overall length (7 inches/180 mm) to accommodate the extra row, with 89 cubic feet of cargo space.
The interior is said to, ” maximize headroom, legroom and comfort,” with the second-row captain seats featuring, “powered armrests, one-touch folding, ventilation and heating,” while the third row features, “a power recline, one-touch folding and vented climate control.”
