The biggest night in fashion is finally here as celebrities prepare to don their most daring outfits to strut down the 2025 Met Gala red carpet.
For the first time, the gala will exclusively highlight Black designers through this year’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” It will also be the first time in 20 years that the focus of the event is on menswear.
The theme, and the Costume Institute’s annual spring exhibition it launches, are inspired by Monica Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.
As ever, the guest list is a tightly guarded secret but A-listers will abound including Met Gala host committee members including Doechii, Ayo Edebiri, Spike Lee and Usher.
Fans will also be on the lookout for if Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, who have been keeping out of the spotlight recently, decide to buck the trend to hit the red carpet, and if Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet will attend arm-in-arm. There are even rumors a certain former vice president may arrive in style.

- Guests begin arriving for the Met Gala, held at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. ET.
- The Met Gala’s famous red carpet can be watched via Vogue’s livestream, hosted by singer Teyana Taylor, actor La La Anthony and comedian Ego Nwod, on its website or YouTube. E! will also be running its own livestream. Inside the gala is private with no press or phones allowed.
- Vogue Editor Anna Wintour, rapper A$AP Rocky, actor Colman Domingo, race car driver Lewis Hamilton and music producer Pharrell Williams will host the event. LeBron James will serve as honorary chair.

What is this year’s Met Gala theme?
The theme for this year’s Gala and accompanying exhibition is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
This year’s show opens to the public on May 10 and runs through October 26, according to The Met’s official exhibition page.
The exhibit is organized into 12 thematic sections—such as “Champion,” “Respectability,” “Cosmopolitanism” and “Heritage”—highlighting how Black individuals have used style to shape identity and challenge societal norms.
The Met describes the show as exploring “style as a mode of distinction and resistance—within a society impacted by race, gender, class, and sexuality.”
When is the 2025 Met Gala?
The 2025 Met Gala will take place on Monday, May 5, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
As usual, the event is scheduled for the first Monday in May and serves as the celebratory launch for the Costume Institute’s annual spring exhibition. The event is invite-only.
