Looking for a new weekend binge? If you don’t feel like rewatching Friends for the billionth time, we recommend checking out these three fantastic series on Hulu.
They’re all seriously underrated, with stellar writing, top-notch jokes and emotionally adept storylines.
Watch With Us recommends these three shows that star actors like Aidy Bryant and Pamela Adlon — Adults, Shrill and Better Things.
Check them all out below to find out why they’re so great — and why you should stream them on Hulu this weekend.
‘Adults’ (2025)
When you’re a kid, you think being in your twenties means you’re a grown-up. When you actually get there, you realize it’s more like being an adult baby who has to pay water bills. In Adults, a hilarious new comedy produced by Nick Kroll, five housemates living in Queens, NY, navigate the ups and downs of being broke, young and kinda dumb — but at least they have each other.
We binged this eight-episode series in about a day and a half and were left wishing for way more. The cast is made up of relative unknowns — Malik Elassal as awkward but good-natured Samir, Lucy Freyer as uptight wannabe adult Billie, Jack Innanen as earnest Paul Baker (he’s always referred to by his full name), Amita Rao as fearless and irrepressible Issa and Owen Thiele as “friend slut” (there’s a whole episode about it) Anton.
One thing we wish someone had told us sooner: there’s a multi-episode arc where Charlie Cox plays a charismatic English teacher, and he’s absolutely hilarious. Overall, the friendships feel incredibly real, and that’s what makes the show sing.
‘Shrill’ (2019–2021)
Aidy Bryant of Saturday Night Live stars in this hilarious and poignant series based on the bestselling memoir Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman by writer-comedian Lindy West. She plays Annie, a writer who wants to “change her life — but not her body.” The show brilliantly examines fatphobia — a form of prejudice that remains remarkably socially acceptable in America — as Annie tries to climb the ladder at the eccentric Seattle magazine where she works. She juggles dating, friendships and caring for her sick parents while learning to assert herself and stop hiding out of fear that her body will be judged.
Shrill does a lot of things well, but Bryant’s performance is the best part of this great show. The larger-than-life personality she displayed in SNL sketches is still present, but she also reveals a smaller, more vulnerable side. Annie is flawed and funny, making Shrill an emotionally resonant and intelligent watch.
‘Better Things’ (2016–2022)
Before Mikey Madison was an Anora Oscar winner, she played Pamela Adlon‘s eldest daughter Max on Better Things, an underrated sitcom that often feels more like a drama. The show is inspired by Adlon’s life as an actress and single mom — her character, Sam Fox, is a moderately successful working actor who balances parenting her three kids with friendships, dating and caring for her aging mother.
Better Things is extremely creative in its structure, often experimenting with point of view and tone. It features a standout ensemble cast of undervalued working actors, including Cree Summer, Diedrich Bader and Alysia Reiner — the kind of actors that make you say “I’ve seen them in something,” even if you don’t know their names.
Have a box of tissues handy — especially if you are a mother.
